Original drawings show an all together different
look from the post renovation results.
The new provides breathing room for
the original character of the home while
marking a distinctly new direction in
architectural style.

Removing the old garage & existing kitchen afforded
an opportunity to cleave the plan virtually in
half. This provided the a clear distinction between new and
renovated spaces. A central circulation element
enhances this separation in plan, but marries the
two sides spatially.
The new garage location provides streetside access,
simplifying on site circulation.
New view opportunities to the creek and tree canopies
were available when a new kitchen/screened porch area
slid into the space vacated by the old garage. The resulting tall
kitchen space was glazed with large windows, providing
natural light filtered by the surrounding live oak tree canopies.

A young couple with two children decided to make over a 60's vintage ranch into a 21st century home. The lot, on a quiet residential street, plays host to a grove of grand live oaks. The rear yard slopes downward to the banks of a tidal creek.
To begin the modifications, a clunky two car garage occupying valuable site area was demolished to make way for a soaring two story, light filled kitchen. Tall window opens rise up to meet the live oak canopy stretching over the home. A new screened porch connects off the kitchen, expanding entertainment space. Tight interior room spaces where reconfigured into an open plan.
Upgrades abound throughout the house, including a relocated formal entry, new primary bath suite, laundry, fitness room and pantry. Exterior walls were opened to provide strategic views of the garden and creek. A home office over the relocated garage provides a contemplative getaway space when needed.
While considerable care was taken to honor the bones of the original residence, the improvements turned dated plan into lively home completely connected to the natural beauty of the property.
