Beaufort, South Carolina
The residence sits on the wooded bluff of a tidal river, overlooking a historic town across the water. White colonnaded structures in the Greek Revival style with green shutters form the predominate image along the town's waterfront. The design objective was to capitalize upon the site's magnificent views, and to create a dignified architectural response to nature and to the historical structures across the water. The solution was to create, essentially, a glassed in "porch". The plan breaks out of the suburban grid to capture views up and down the river. Living spaces radiate out from a tower that provides access to a belvedere on the roof terrace.
